母の立ち上げた美容サロンを継ぎ、伝え続けていきたいこと

美容業界で30年以上もの歴史を持つ実力派美容サロン「mtm labo」。
日本の麦や桜などを原材料に含みつつ、最先端の研究を重ね、「本当に自分に合ったものを使うことで本来の美しさを導き出す」というコンセプトのもとにサービスを展開中。
商品パッケージは無印良品のデザインを手掛けたKenya Haraさんが担当。
サロンでは丁寧なコンサルテーションに始まり、フェイシャルサービスからカスタム化粧品の販売まで至れり尽くせり。

香港生まれのこのブランドをシンガポールに参入させ、サロンを開業されたお母様の想いを継ぎ、今はディレクターとして活躍されているケリーさんにお話を伺いました。

Q1. どうしてmtm laboを立ち上げられたのですか？
自己紹介も含めてお願いできますか？

Why did you open your salon, “mtm labo”?
Could you please introduce yourself?

mtm laboは、実は私の母がシンガポールに紹介したブランドです。
母はこのブランドが「お客様それぞれに合うように、カスタマイズされたスキンケアの提案を」という点をとても気に入っていました。
母は、みんなそれぞれ肌は違うし、それぞれに合わせたケアをすることの重要性を強く信じて止まないのです。
母がそうやって人々の美のサポートをし、皆様がその美しさに自信を持ち輝いていかれるのを見て、私も心を動かされ、私も母のようにお客様にサービスすることに喜びを感じるようになりました。
そんな想いから家業であるサロンを引き継ぎました（当初はMTM Skincareと呼ばれていました）。

Beauty（美）というのは私にとって自信でありエンパワーメントだと思っています。
皆様に自信を持っていただく、その手助けをすることが私のキャリアにおいてとても重要なポイントであり、モチベーションとなっています。
ディレクターになった今、このブランドを少しリニューアルし、科学の面にフォーカスを置く（科学のプロセス用いたスキンケア）という意味でmtm laboと改名しました。
改名後も母の想いをしっかりと引き継ぎ、このサロンを続けています。


mtm labo was actually brought in by my mom.
She was inspired by how the brand provides customized skin care solutions for its consumers.
She was a firm believer that every skin is unique and deserves a well-tailored solution.

After seeing how she was able to help people regain their confidence by enhancing their beauty, I was motivated to continue invoking this same joy in other consumers.
That’s why I decided to join the family business, formerly MTM Skincare.

Beauty has always meant confidence and empowerment to me.
Helping people achieve their confidence goals has been the driving force behind my direction for my career.
After I took over as managing director, we rebranded MTM skincare into “mtm labo” to emphasize its scientific customization process.
Since then, I continuously work towards honoring my mother’s legacy.

Q2. ブランドのコンセプトについて教えていただけますか？
このブランドのどんなところが他とは違うのでしょうか？

Could you please tell me the brand‘s concept of “mtm labo”?
What is so unique about your products?

mtm laboのスキンケアが他社と違う点としては、それぞれのお客様のためにカスタマイズされ、調合されたスキンケアを提供しているというところだと思います。
人の肌はそれぞれ違います。
一人ひとりのお客様に対し、それぞれに合ったプランをご提案するというアプローチをとっています。
カスタマーサービスも最高のものでなければならないと考えており、サロンにお越しいただいた際にはお客様にとって素敵な経験となるように努めています。


What makes mtm labo unique and different from our competitors is our custom-blended skincare solutions for consumers.
We believe that everybody’s skin is different and varies individually.
Our treatment plan follows this philosophy as we cater to each individual’s skin needs by optimizing our skincare approach.
We also ensure that we provide excellent customer service to our clients, providing them with the best possible experience.

Q3. mtm laboは美容サロンでありながら商品の販売もされていますが、コンサルテーションのプロセスとはどのようなものなのでしょうか？

お客様がサロンに一歩足を踏み込んだところからどのような流れとなるのでしょう？

You have a salon and also sell customized cosmetics items.
What is the consultation process like?
What is the flow when a customer comes into your salon?

mtm laboにお越しいただいて一番初めに行うのが、スキンケアのプロとお客様の１対１でのコンサルテーションです。
先端技術を用いて肌の状態を分析し、さらにアンケートにお答えいただくことで日々の癖やお客様のライフスタイルを知り、そこからどのようなスキンケアが一番適しているかを導き出していきます。

続いて、お客様のお肌にベストな施術を決め、当店にある植物から抽出された成分（その数なんと300種類）を使ったスキンケア用品の中からそのお客様に合うものをブレンドしていきます。
アセスメントによりますが、特別なフェイシャルをおすすめすることも。
これも当店の「一人ひとりのお客様に最適なスキンケアを提供する」という理念に基づいたものです。


Every consumer’s journey here at mtm labo begins with a one-on-one consultation with our skincare experts.

Our experts will conduct a computerized skin analysis and in-depth survey of the customer’s daily habits and lifestyle to get a clearer picture of their dermatological needs.
After which, we will tailor the treatment to the consumer’s unique skin type and formulate custom-blended solutions with our extensive library of botanical extracts.

Depending on the assessment, specialized facials might be recommended as part of our custom-blended skincare solutions.

Q4. シンガポールのような紫外線が強い常夏の環境ではどのようなスキンケアをするといいのでしょうか？

What would you recommend us to do in order to take good care of our skin, considering living in a tropical environment with strong UV-ray like in Singapore?

紫外線は主な加齢の原因だと言われています。
紫外線は特に肌に悪影響を及ぼしますね。 強い紫外線を受けるような環境にいる場合は、真皮が弱ってしまい、シワ、シミやひどい場合には皮膚癌を引き起こすことも。

ここで重要なのは外出する際には必ず日焼け止めを使うこと、しかもSPF50以上のものを使用することがポイントです。日焼け対策というだけでなくシミのもとの形成から肌を守ってくれます。mtm laboでは「solar shield plus」という商品を扱っており、日焼け止め＋メイクアップベースとしてお使いいただけるクリームとなっています。


Exposure to UV-ray is a major cause for aging.
UV light can be especially harmful towards the skin.

If you are living in an environment with strong rays, it can weaken the dermis layer of your skin and make you more susceptible to wrinkles, brown spots and even skin cancer.
As such, it is important to always use sunscreen that is at least SPF 50 and above when heading out.
This will help to protect your skin against sunburn and pigmentation.
Here at mtm labo, we do actually offer solar shield plus, a cream that doubles up as sunscreen and a make-up base.

Q5. シンガポールにお住まいの方はどのような肌トラブルで悩んでいますか？

What are the common skin problems that women face living in Singapore?

一般的に多いのは色素沈着、湿疹、それからニキビかと思います。
常夏という環境下では、高い湿気にさらされ、いつも多く汗が出ているということもあり、皮膚トラブルが非常に起こりやすいです。
皮膚の炎症や良い肌のコンディションを保つためにも保湿剤やクレンザーに少しこだわってみることをお勧めします。

mtm laboでは「re-white 」というシリーズの商品があり、クリームやパックなどを使うことでメラニンの生成を抑え、肌を本来のぷるんとした状態に戻していく手助けをしてくれます。
また、肌の黄ばみを無くし、トーンを整えるという役割も担ってくれる商品なので一石二鳥かと思います。


The most common skin problems faced by women in Singapore would be pigmentation, eczema, and acne.
Due to our tropical climate, high humidity, and increased rate of perspiration, we might be excessively prone to these skincare issues.
It is important to invest in moisturizers and cleansers to prevent flare-ups and keep these conditions under control.

Q6. 時間に余裕ができた時はどんなことをされていますか？
自分を労わるという観点からお答えいただけますか？

What would you like to do in your spare time in order to pamper yourself?

人生を豊かにするようなことなら、なんでも大好きですよ！
例えば読書も好きだし、運動をする事も好きです。
何よりも「体を大切に」ということにはこだわっています。
自分が労われていないと、他の人を労わることはできませんからね。
特に二人目の子どもができてからはスケジュールが大変なことに。
なので、私はときどき休んで体を回復させて、エネルギーチャージをする時間を意識的に設けるようにしています。


I love anything that enriches my life, be it through a good book, or exercising.
I am a firm believer in investing in your body.
If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of others.
Especially with my second child now, I have a busier schedule than ever.
This is why I try to always remind myself to take some time off to recuperate and re-energized.

Q7. 自分へのご褒美ということで、何かお勧めのフェイシャルや商品はありますか？

営業Aがサロンにお邪魔してきました

以前マカロンに食紅でペイントするという、一見美容とは関係ないようなイベントに参加させていただきました。
そこでもテーマは「Everyone is different – embrace the difference」。
同じ絵を描いても、誰一人一緒ではない。

「肌の状態は一人ひとり違って当然。違うからこそ美しいんです。」と熱く語っていらっしゃったケリーさんがとても印象的でした。

その後、保湿クリーム（フェイスパック）を使わせていただき、その凄まじい保湿力の高さに惚れてサロンのフェイシャルを体験。

丁寧なカウンセリングから始まり、肌の悩みを聞いてもらった上で調合してくださったクリームなどを使ったフェイシャルへ。
香りが自然で心地よく、ハンドタッチが非常に柔らかなセラピストさんが丁寧に施術してくださいました。
私は自分でインナードライ肌と思っているのですが（外はオイリー）、そんなお肌が内側からもっちりに。
ファンデのノリも良くなり大満足でした。
